Apple masquerades as an hourglass

I have always wanted an hourglass figure. (Me and millions of other women!) This is what I do when I want to pretend that my bottom half is equal to the top.
Notice how the line of demarcation is where this trumpet skirt begins to flare out.
This is the first time I've worn these two pieces together. I enjoyed wearing it for Valentine's Day. I'll have to do it again.

Just love your title and your outfit. And your hair!

  • MsMaven replied 9 years ago

I don't notice whether you are hourglass or some other shape. I just see a fabulous-looking woman who owns her look.

Gorgeous look, DV!  So glad you had a chance to dress up for the occasion.  The red on red is lovely, and the silhouette is smashing!

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Beth Ann - Yep I think DH felt that giving me a chance to dress up was part of the celebration. He cooked a fabulous dinner and took primary care of DD. I played in my closet and made myself look pretty. It was a win-win ;-)

You look fabulous top to toe!

That's a very clever trick, Day Vies, and it works beautifully to give you your hourglass figure.  The outfit is lovely; just perfect for Valentine's Day.

You look smokin'...I love the red sweater belted over the skirt...Apple or hour glass who cares...what I love is that the look on you is TDF...

Beautiful! The red looks stunning on you!

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

What MsMaven said! You look fantastic. The proportions are really great on you.

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

Beautiful! Fab Valentine's outfit, and I hope you rewear it. it's gorgeous on you!

  • Echo replied 9 years ago

I think you look great in almost everything you wear, but this outfit is fabulous. You look great with your natural figure, and you look great "masquerading" as well. Red is a beautiful colour on you.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

Oh I love an obi belt!

  • replied 9 years ago

I love your hairstyle and that red is so pretty on you. You are gorgeous, seriously, what a beautiful woman.

  • Catnip replied 9 years ago

Wow!  You got the proportions exactly right here.  Very flattering, and I love the color of the top.

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

I'm trying to recall if I've seen you in that shade of red before … not sure.  In any case, it's super flattering.   Love the whole effort here!

Torontogirl - I am back in my childhood watching cartoons of the wolf whistling at some pretty girl with his eyes popping out of his head :-) Thanks for the memory!

Msmaven / Janet - I agree it's all in the proportions. I can't tell you how many times I tried this over the years and it has never quite looked like this. The tone on tone red with the wide obi belt over my not so tiny waist and belly help keep the illusion alive :-)

Echo - Red had been a color I avoided. I think it was because I could not find my shade of red. Reds with blue undertones work best for me. I am also most comfortable in darker reds.

Rachylou - I picked this belt up from ASOS 4 or 5 years ago. I did not think it would have so much longevity in my wardrobe considering I chose red over black or cognac. It's leather so I'm guessing I'll have it until it wears out.

CocoLion - I think you've seen this before. I've had this top about 3 or 4 years.
I've worn it here and here.

Wow, you look gorgeous, Day Vies. I love that red top and belt together on you. And your tip is fantastic. My reaction to your title, though, was: Day Vies is an apple? My impression of you is an hourglass! I think it's because you wear a lot of structured styles that highlight your waist, and your look is so ladylike. Anyway, beautiful Valentine's Day outfit, and I'm glad you had a wonderful day.

Beautiful! Love the two reds.. very festive, and the silhouette is just lovely on you. I like that the sleeves are 3/4 too as it balances out the shape of your sweater. Great hair too!

  • abc replied 9 years ago

Super!  I love an obi belt, too, and have several (maybe the same one you have here!)

Isn't it nice once we figure out what tricks we can play WITH our bodies instead of fighting against them?  :)

  • mosiejohnson replied 9 years ago

You have clearly found the reds that work for you!  Love the outfit and especially the radiance beaming from your pretty pics!

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

abc - You are so right! We usually focus on what's not right, what we need to hide or cover. I never thought of just focusing on the tricks I use to make things look good and why. I never thought of it that way. A change in perspective is a beautiful thing. Thank you!

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

You look wonderful. Trying to figure out how DH cooked a magnificent dinner while watching DD, though!

  • Krissy replied 9 years ago

A classic silhouette but bold colours. I really love this! You look fab!

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

You look fantastic in red, and the red belt works so nicely with this outfit. How we wear our clothes makes such a difference, doesn't it. Your use of the belt to create an hourglass is perfection!
