It's a Celebration!

This is what I wore to a celebratory brunch with DH and DD. We were celebrating my first attorney position (Yay!) I have been MIA this week because I have been finalizing daycare for DD (I start tomorrow!) and preparing to spend a lot less time at home so I have not had time to post this week. I love the fact that this position will fit into my life rather than me having to fit my life into it. Also my daycare is 3 parking lots over from my office (how convenient is that???) So DD and I will be going off to work together. Also, because I will be working full time my outfits posts will be regular from here on out.

Today's outfit is almost all from Old Navy. The boots are Rockport. I fell in love with this high-waist pencil skirt last fall admittedly because it's blue and green (a favorite color combo). I paired it with an indigo turtleneck rather than navy one because I felt that a more vibrant shade of blue would bring out the green in the skirt and contrast nicely with the boots. I'm also wearing a statement necklace but it's obscured a bit by the camera angle. I thought the denim jacket was a nice touch because the organic texture would contrast nicely with the graphic print in the skirt and complement the boots. I wanted to up the casual factor of this skirt but still keep it polished. Have I succeeded?

Additional styling suggestions are appreciated.

Congratulations, Day Vies, and I'm glad you struck lucky with the day care.
Your outfit is, as always, perfect.  You have definitely succeeded in achieving a polished casual look.  Actually, I may steal "polished casual" as a style descriptor for myself.

What a blessing how this all came together for you. Though, as I study your outfit elements, it's obvious how you have good instincts to search out what is right (beautiful) for you and your talent at planning. :D

DV...Sending you big bouquets of balloons to celebrate your new position and having one that works for precious DD...When you leave her in the morning, you may be riding a bumpy road for a bit but imagine DD saying, "Get on with it Mom, I want to play with the kids;;;" You can walk out smiling..albeit through one or two tears...
I love you outfit...The colors look perfect on you and I love how you wore casual and kept it chic...Great look with the boots..

What a crazy convergence of good fortune! I love your outfit, and enjoyed your description of the process (I'm daring to suggest one slight change, maybe no necklace?).
Your post is so joyful it's impossible to read it and not be happy for you, and you are as usual, gorgeous.

You look wonderful. I love this outfit. I think having a baby agreed with you. Your style is just blossoming forth.

Congratulations on the job. It isn't always easy for a new Mom to get a good job in the legal world. (Trying hard not to say it. . . but I will . . back in my day, it was.) Added to nearby day care--this is indeed fabulous all around.

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Thank you all for your encouraging complements. I want to start a new post but I am so tired.  At least I took the pictures this morning. There is so much preparation that goes into getting myself and DD ready for the following day --  making sure I don't forget anything and that I've packed everything. It's only Tuesday and I am already looking forward to the weekend. Oops but there is no sleep for the weary there either. DH signed us up for and all day alumni event on Saturday.

  • Laurie replied 9 years ago

You look ready to take on the world!  I had a similar day care situation when my son was an infant and it worked out great.    All the best juggling everything.   (Coffee is your friend)

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

You definitely succeeded in your goal:  to use the skirt is a casual, but still polished way.  The denim and brown leather gives just a bit of "flannel shirt" vibe to the plaid, and the fits are tailored and crisp, which retains the sense of polish.

Heartfelt congratulations on your new job! I'm sure it will take several weeks to hit your stride.  If you take photos, you can always group your outfits into posts as Aida and Sveta do!  Be gentle to yourself --- I think we wear out much faster in a new job or routine.  Being in Learning Mode is like driving in overdrive -- it takes more gas!

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

I am just now seeing this, and I am so happy for you! Hooray!! You look amazingly fab, and I am looking forward to seeing your career outfits!

  • replied 9 years ago

Wow.  You look amazing.  Congratulations on everything.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

Best of luck ! Tell DH he needs to help you keep schedule simple at first 'til you hit your stride with DD adjusting, you adjusting,  plus all the usual things that still need doing.

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Unfrumped -- You couldn't be more correct. DH and I went on a date last night and he asked me what help would I need adjusting to the new schedule. It takes me 2.5 hours to leave the house in the morning even when I prep the night before. The good thing is all that time built into my schedule means I am not rushing even if everything takes longer than I thought it would. This morning I discovered DD was sick overnight and it took 20 minutes to clean her up (just when I thought I'd be leaving early) But DH was home (mental health day) so I was still able to leave on time.
