It's been a long week

Working full time for the first time in 5 years takes some getting used
to. It's not the work or the time I spend working it's the extra time I
have to build into my day for the commute! Sadly I work a 20-minute
drive from my home. However, on public transportation that same commute
is 50 minutes. Then of course I have to get up early enough to not be
rushed -- in my younger days I'd be out the door in one hour flat. I
also didn't eat breakfast, I didn't wear as much make up (eyeliner and
lipstick only), and I think I moved faster! :-)

So I put this outfit together last night under a time crunch because I have my final LLM course on Thursday nights. I remembered wearing these pieces together before. I did not however load up the pearls that time. Can I just say I loved this outfit? It's perfectly me, and I felt very much all of myself wearing it. I got the passersby double-take in this outfit, and people on the street
seemed to like it. I forgot to include my yellow tote in the pictures which picks up the yellow in the belt, but I think you all get the idea.

Apologies in advance as I don't look as fresh as I did this morning. This was taken after work, and after fighting traffic to grab my box of goodies (shoes and a pair of boots) from UPS. Can I just make a PSA and say that some of the highest quality well-made shoes I own are Lands End. They are quite comfortable (not crocs comfy, comfy for heels kind of comfy). They have cushioned leather insoles and leather soles. Lands End happened to be having a sale earlier this week 40% off all shoes so I picked up this pair in sweet potato and patent gray and these are the boots. I have totally digressed :-) but as I said in the beginning this has been a long week.

OK I'm rambling so I'll wrap it up now. Happy Friday!

Wow, a tough week and you still manage to take a WIW shot when you get home on Friday night!  I love this outfit and love the pearls. And look at you with the yellow background and the red bordered rug. Great outfit, great pic. You are beautiful!

Beautiful is absolutely the right word. I just love how the orange plays against the chambray (I think it is? Or maybe light grey - on my laptop) and the pearls light up your lovely face. You may not have felt fresh but you still looked it.

Love the shoe finds, too. They look terrific! Hope you have a relaxing weekend.

So cute! Enjoy your weekend and relax.

Suz -- the shirt is navy with a tiny all over white polka dot pattern. Ironically I just realized it's also Lands End. Clearly I'm their unpaid poster child today ;-)

Wow, you do look fab, and I can imagine how great the yellow tote looked. I took my WIW this evening after work, too--better then than never, right??

Congratulations on finishing a long week! Hope you have a great weekend.

Ah! Okay - from a distance it reads chambray/grey, and that makes sense. Well, I think I just love your outfit even more because now I can imagine how great it looks close up!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Suz - I agree it does. There is no way you could have know it was not chambray the dots are that small.

Firecracker -  Agreed, better late than never. I would never have guessed yours were taken after work at all. I adore that outfit -- it's a perfect blend of a little boho and a lot of modern classic. I think it's good inspiration for me when I'd like to do something a little bohemian.

Adelfa - Ah the pearls. I know I would have worn this outfit just the same without them but adding them throws in a sense of everyday luxury and plays off the white polka dots in the shirt.

Well, my dear, you look fabulous even after a long day and a long week at work. Another fantastic outfit!

Cheers to you for making it through the struggles of the FT work week and looking so great!  I think you should also freelance model for Lands End :)  Great tip on the shoes....I always wondered if they were comfy.

YLF! The pearls with the more casual sporty shirt are just inspired.

This is stunning DayVies. I love the colors and can just imagine the bright yellow bag with it. Now I will be haeding off to Lands Ends for the shoe hunt. Thanks for the tip :)

ETA: now 4 pairs of shoes in my Lands end basket.... in wide widths and real leather! Yippee! :)

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Sarah- I was pretty happy that they offered wide widths too. Not the heels unfortunately but the boots are very comfy that I tried on last night and they're wide width.

dlb1960- I was constantly admonished by my Mom when I was little to sit up straight and stand up straight. I guess it paid off. I was also teased as a tween for my posture (being so straight) but it's funny when you have strong-willed parents what they say means more to you than what your "so-called" friends say. I also truly believed what my parents told me that they had eyes in the back of their heads and they had friends I didn't know about reporting to them on my activities. Yep, I was VERY gullible, but fear of being told on kept me on the straight and narrow.

Jeanie - I always wanted to model especially when I was a teen. My mom wouldn't let me because the agency insisted that I loose 20 lbs. Mom did not think there would be much of me left if I did that :-). But I realized just now that in some ways I did become a model. I model my own clothes on my own blog.

I hear you on the frustrations of commuting and vanishing free time. You look great in these colors! Thanks for the tip about lands end shoes. They sound nice.

The pearls against the jaunty, popped blue collar, again juxtaposed by that tangerine sweater (or whatever succulent color it may be)--I am loving this.
