I liked this outfit today because it has simple clean lines. I didn't wear any jewelry and you can't see the belt that I'm wearing. These trousers are the new cropped style. I actually sized up because my size emphasized what little hips I have and I really wanted a boyish slouch on these. Normally I would have worn some pointy toed kitten heels but with a high of 39 degrees I did not want my ankles to freeze. So I veered off into "school-girl" territory with the super shiny 2 inch heel penny loafers. I wore my glasses all day today so I think that added to the school-girl vibe.
As an aside, I'm awed at how much I look like my mother in these photos. She wore a curly perm during the 80's and I look just like her. (Most of the time I look like my Dad).
Here's what I'm wearing:
Elie Tahari button down shirt
BR copped trousers
LE penny loafers
(Hair by Day Vies ;-D)
Thanks for looking!

Nicole D replied 10 years agoOh, there they are! ANd wow - worth waiting for. I love that blouse on you - just perfect for your figure. I think you are a genius for getting the cropped non-tapered leg right. That always look gawky on me. SHoes balance them out. YLF.

catgirl replied 10 years agoWHAT A BLOUSE! I am loving that fit on you. Gorgeous!

Vildy replied 10 years agoI was always meh about the knot look but it's out of this world on you.
Looks like it was designed just for you. Man, that's a shirt!

hedgiehog replied 10 years agoYou are rocking this outfit! You put it together so well. Chic schoolgirl. :)

Day Vies replied 10 years agoNicole - I was multi-tasking so the pictures got a little lost in the shuffle and I posted without them. (La la la!)
Alaska -- this blouse was all alone in the clearance section so when I tried it on and it fit perfectly I brought it home to live with me ;-)

K. Period. replied 10 years agoSeriously, you are defying the laws of short pant science. How is it possible that you've managed to make your legs look a mile long even though you are wearing cropped pants?!? How? You are amazing! Law breaker!
I love the blouse. That shape is a favorite of mine too. It looks formal and feminine all while scooting over the middle and not making the ladies look disproportionate. Truly phenomenal. You look gloriously gorgeous, DV! -
Thistle replied 10 years agoI love that blouse on you! You to always look so perfect and pulled together!

Day Vies replied 10 years agoAww K -- that makes my day. I think the crops don't look choppy because my socks are the same color so the pant hem isn't such a line of demarcation -- that's the only way I can explain why it seems to work.
Thistle -- I really think a blouse like this with the structured lines and knot in the center would look fabulous on you. Maybe you could add to a summer capsule? -
Aida replied 10 years agoThis blouse is amazing on you, what a find! Must admit that I am not a big fan of this cropped pant length so I'd prefer shorter or longer lengths to highlight those miles long legs. And of course, my favorite things is your hair ^^

Raisin replied 10 years agoWhat a great blouse! You look great. Love your hair today too.

celia replied 10 years agoNothing like a clean outfit to brighten the day.
The blouse is the star for me in this outfit. Not very sure about the fit of the pants but envy your slim hips ;)

Karie replied 10 years agoFantastic blouse, fantastic pants, fantastic hair, fantastic...do you see a theme going on here? You look fantastic!

Suz replied 10 years agoWHOA. All I can say is, your mother must have been one heck of a beauty, because look at you! How the heck can a person have long legs in cropped pants? But you do! And that blouse is spectacular. I have one with a twist like that in the front from BR last year - it is a summer sleeveless thing. But after seeing you wear yours, I do not think I will have the heart to sport my own. This is how it's supposed to look!

catgirl replied 10 years agoI think the trick is the socks elongating the legline the way my boots did with cropped plaid pants. Although your legs are already mighty long!
-
replied 10 years agoSo cute! You look a little Whitney Houston with that curly bob, too. You know just how to dress your figure (yeah Suz, I can't fill out those knotted tops either). Brilliant move to size up on the pants, that gives you a bit more hip. And yes, you are defying all science by looking so long-legged in cropped pants. :)

Jaime replied 10 years agoAgree that you have created PPL voodoo. I think it helps to have super long legs! Your blouse looks amazing on you and your hair is stunning. You must have very good looking parents - you look beautiful!

Joy replied 10 years agoI have twisted blouse envy. Like Suz and Claire, I can't fill one out and was delusioned enough to buy one once thinking it would visually add inches. It turned into a sign drawing attention to...nothing. YLF!

deb replied 10 years agoSuch a cute blouse. I like the shorter trousers but can see them with the kitten heels.

Ingunn replied 10 years agoYou are a beautiful woman! Your hair blows me away. I really like all your hairstyles, but this one is a real natural beauty, and that is always a winner. Your mother must have been a sight to be seen in her time in the eighties. I also love the blouse. Now I can see what they are supposed to do - I've tried one of those, but it didn't work for me. Long legs + boyish fit = great fit in cropped, untapered pants. Now I want penny loafers, too. I can try to copy your curls a little, but the rest is way out of my reach. Thank you for inspiring me!

Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years agoGreat outfit on you, Day Vies! I like your take on schoolgirl. The pants and top are both terrific finds, and they go beautifully together. This is such a great look, and I do want to see the pants with the little pointy pumps when you break out that look, too.

Lyn D. replied 10 years agoI too love tops that don't need further embellishment with accessories, especially in the warmer weather.
YLF, -
rae replied 10 years agoYou totally pull off cropped pants! I love how the waist detail of the shirt and the color of the socks lengthen the leg line for miles.
-
Lantana replied 10 years agoOh, what a superb shirt. You look stunning!
-
Deborah replied 10 years agoThis looks lovely and the socks do continue the line of the pants. The simplicity is just lovely.
-
annaj replied 10 years agoI love the blouse! Just gorgeous!

Parsley replied 10 years agoFirst of all, I love your hair! You need to wear it like that more often- it really looks great .
The shirt is also a winner. That style is super-flattering on you. I'm not a big fan of the cropped pants look, but you wear it well.
I am a big fan of the sleek simplicity of this outfit. You look great!

I am fascinated with the process of getting dressed every day -- to me this is more challenging than getting dressed for a big event because what I wear is dictated by my activities, work environment, and the weather. Living in a climate that guarantees four seasons (or at least two extremes) provides both challenges and inspiration.
