More purple and gray

I wore this about a week ago. I have been surprised again and again by what still fits at 22 weeks. I love a deep rich purple it goes well with my coloring. I find that it's easier to find what I consider crappy purple in clothing. Crappy purple is a shade that has gray and or brown undertones that causes the color to look muddy rather than crisp. Not only do I look bad in muddy colors, but I don't like looking at muddy colors.

This blouse is a faux wrap, with flutter sleeves and a v-neck from Banana Republic. I have an identical one in black. I am more please with the fit now
than I was before I was pregnant because these blouses were not available in petite -- so it's longer than I need. The belly makes it a bit shorter so I don't feel like I am drowning in it.

Speaking of my fascination with purple of late, I must share that I am having a  little girl and I am planning a nursery in shades of purple, red-violet and lavender accented with shades of chartreuse. So that may explain some of my current fascination.

If you're still with me, here's the rest of what I'm wearing. The suit is Tahari, I had tailored last year.and I am wearing Lands End patent heels in arctic gray.

Happy Sunday!

The colors are gorgeous on you! Congrats on your little girl! You look fabulous!

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

That is a beautiful suit on you, very striking!  I hear what you are saying about purple, I'm the same way, a rich saturated purple works best.   That shirt is great on you and pairs well with the suit.   Enjoy the nursery painting!

  • deb replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous suit and it makes the purple brighter. You do not look 22 weeks along. Oh, and a little girl, how exciting.

YLF I love pants suits. The nursery sounds wonderful :) Purple was my mother's favourite colour so it's dear to my heart.

  • Em replied 10 years ago

Looks very crisp and stylish, Day!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Happy sigh. I am a HUGE lover of suits on women. You made have heard that my current HEWI is a suit. Interested to hear that you had this tailored to make it work just right. It certainly seems to be still fitting now, which is fantastic.

I also laughed out loud about the "crappy" purple. I could not agree more....there are purples and purples and you, my dear, deserve the "royal" kind!

Congratulations on the news about the nursery colours -- and the reason for your choice. Your daughter will be surrounded by rich beauty from day 1.

You look fantastic for mid-pregnancy DV! Or any time. Love, love, love that suit on you!

ETA -Little girl! Just noticed on my way out of this thread. Wonderful, the nursery sounds smashing!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Rabbit - I am so glad I am not the only one noticing that most purples look horrible.

    Deb & Shevia
    - I think I've figured it out. I think I look not so very pregnant at least partly because this is baby #1. I am so glad I listened to everyone who said not to run out and buy a bunch of maternity clothes. I'm a little bigger every day but it's nowhere near as big as I thought (feared :-)) I'd be by the 1/2 way point.

    Caro
    - I believe I am in good company since it was your mother's favorite. I have always liked purple and was surprised when it struck me that this was the primary color I wanted in the nursery.

Suz - you and I are in the same boat. I love a crisp suit worn as a suit and separately. I bought this suit to fit my bust line and it was just too big for the rest of me. I had the tailor take out extra fabric in the torso of the jacket and shorten the sleeves. The pants had more room in the hips than I'll ever need. I'm just fascinated that depending on the cut of a pair of pants I can wear them with absolutely no problem. BTW - DH is hoping DD will be artistic like me.

    Hi DayVies --

Wow, I *have* missed some big things being around sporadically, and certainly the outfit photo didn't give me any clue -- very belated best wishes for your pregnancy and a safe journey for you and your little girl.

You look incredible and I'm in awe you can fit in that suit at your stage.

  • Em replied 10 years ago

I just looked at the outfit and didn't read the story initially.

Congratulations, Day! You'll get your own little cute doll to dress! How fun! I love babies - as long as they're clean, quiet, and in a good mood that is.;-) If these requirements are not met, I hand them to their rightful owners.;-)

  • adorkable replied 10 years ago

I love the suit, and you are glowing as always.

Am I the only one who wants to see the nursery once it's finished? Those colors sound glorious.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

DV, you look fab!  I swear, I don't think I've ever seen you look better -- and that is a very bold statement given your high level of fabness!!

And yes!  We must see the nursery!!!

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

I promise to post pics of the nursery once it's finished. (pinky promise ;-))

  • Helena replied 9 years ago

    stunning outfit!

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Looking stunning!  How wonderful to make it this far without lots of maternity gear!  It will save money for that nursery!

I hear you on purple.  They are not all equal!

  • Ledonna N. replied 9 years ago

    Wow, lovely

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Congrats, and your nursery colours sound stunning. The colour of the suit is fabulous with the purple against your complexion.

As Queen Pedantic About Pant Lengths I have to say it, DV. The bootcut trousers are about 3 inches short. Do you have the same impression?

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

Gorgeous! I love that color purple, and I know what you mean about muddy purples. I prefer a blue undertone to a brown. It really pops against the grey of the suit. So pretty!

And we are holding you to nursery photos! You pinky swore! ;)

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Angie - Probably shorter than I would personally prefer but the belly is taking up more room so my pants go up. Normally these are well within my range of acceptable. I think that was the last hurrah for those trousers for awhile.  Even if I wore them with flats that would not help

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

Perhaps you can let down the hems?

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I am so impressed with you!  And the pant length is a little off but you are pregnant and gorgeous and can be forgiven anything as far as I'm concerned!

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Angie - If I weren't pregnant it would be something I'd consider now. Because my condition is temporary and my body is changing weekly the pant length here is something I'll probably reconsider in the fall when the current rollercoaster ride is scheduled to end.
When I originally had these altered I considered letting the hem down I waffled and now you're confirming that I should have.

  • Karie replied 9 years ago

Yay it's a girl (of course if it was a boy I'd say, "Yay it's a boy!")! The nursery colors sound beautiful. You look fantastic in purple and gray.

  • Golden replied 9 years ago

You look amazing and congrats on a little girl! Your nursery sounds cute too.

  • Angie replied 9 years ago

That makes sense. I have no doubt that your maternity style will be as gorgeous as your non-maternity style. xo

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

Stunning!  And congrats, how exciting to know you are having a little girl.  This outfit is just stellar on you DV.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 9 years ago

Oooohhhh, I had no idea you were pregnant! Belated congrats to you and Mr. DV!

You look lovely in that suit. I'm sure your little cherub will take after her beautiful mom.

  • Adelfa replied 9 years ago

So glad I clicked on this post to find out about the little girl! Yay! I agree you've never looked better. Don't know how you're doing it, but it's true.

  • rachylou replied 9 years ago

    That dark purple is gorgeous.

    Is your Tahari suit lined?

  • Ornella replied 9 years ago

You look red carpet ready!  Stunning colour and combination of purple and grey is just beautiful.

And WOW, 22 weeks! I remember the second half just flying ;-)

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

Rachy - yes the jacket is lined with a beautiful cream, gray and black pinstripe.

  • Kiwichik replied 9 years ago

The cut of that suit looks so good on you - the tailoring was well worth it.

  • lyn67 replied 9 years ago

Wow,22 weeks and still fits??? That's a great suit, does it speaks French, too?:-) Love the perfect fit and the subtle shine, purple is just gorgeous with it, and YLF of course!:-)
