My favorite cardi

Last week I had a continuing education luncheon to attend. I pulled out old faithful, my favorite blue old navy cardigan. I when I want to feel great and don't know what to wear I always start with this sweater. I wore it with a skirt this time (pic #1) because pants are a little tricky for me just now and I wanted a nice smooth line. (I believe I have Natalie to thank for the skirt tip).

I have included photos of other ways I have worn this cardigan. Picture 2 has been worn so many times, but I never get tired of it!

Happy Monday and thanks for stopping by.

Very nice layering DV. I think the proportions work especially well with blazer length, cardi length and skirt. I also like how the white collar lights up your face. Yay for versatile pieces!

All are fab! I especially love 3 and 4. I am so intimidated by belts-- you look great wearing yours.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Fastkat -- many moons ago you couldn't pay me to wear a belt. As an apple I don't have a defined waistline. I thought belts pointed a huge arrow to what I felt was my biggest problem area. But I realized that sometimes without a belt I look much bigger than I am because untucked shirts create too much volume on my frame.

Number 3 is FANTASTIC and I love 4 too.  They all look fab on you!  Great point about belts and volume.  Like fastcat, I am intimidated by belts but need to work on that -- I've got more Apple around the middle since menopause, darnit.

    I love these, particularly #2!!

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

I see what that is old faithful!  You look terrific in that color and in that cardi. Not sure how you pull off a cardi with such pizzazz. They always tend to look frumpy on me :)

You look terrific in all of them, but I love #4 and #4 the best. It makes your legs look miles long!

This is like a tutorial of cardi fabness.  Love the hue and the fit is classic and comfortable, the styling modern and chic.

    You're transitioning your wardrobe beautifully!

That cardigan loves you back. I always like how you layer and wear a belt so skillfully. I haven't got the hang of that yet.

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

WOW !  Who would have ever thought that a turquoise blue cardigan could be so freakin' versatile ?  It is fantastic. You have ignited the desire in me to try belts again too.

(  You just look so fantastic in color and it just goes with that incredible smile that just screams HAPPY !  )

    Still looking so good!

What a beautiful color on you and great outfits.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

This shade is a beautiful color for you and the layering is fabulous!  No wonder it is a favorite of yours... Love ti with the orange...

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Love the color and you're reading my mind, because that is THE EXACT SHADE I want to buy!  Beautiful any way you wear it.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Thistle - yeah #4 is definitely a favorite -- All of my go-to trousers have either been purchased or hemmed to that length Wide-leg long length trousers have treated me well. I think you could play with a basic cardi and a fun colored tank under one of your jackets (suit or leather). The strong shoulder line of the jacket would keep your cardi from looking frumpy. Also, I think it would allow you 2 relatively inexpensive layers to play with color combinations.

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

I love, LOVE your layering style. Somehow it looks sleek and intentional and gorgeous when you do it, and lumpy and random when I try! And how cute are the shoes in #5? I can't get over how they match the cardi and belt. Absolutely fab!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Echo - none of my traditional crew neck cardigans looked very stylish on me until I started sizing down. Before I'd buy cardigans in large and XL in every color I liked and wonder why I never wore them. (Because they looked frumpy!!!!) Believe it or not most of my cardigans are mediums (I have one that's a size small but I am sure that brand is over-sized). Although in woven tops I wear a Petite XL or a 16/18P.
Because sizing is not consistent across brands I look at 3 areas to determine if I am going to get a sleek fit with a new cardigan.

    1. Does it fit on my shoulder, if the shoulder seam is sliding off the edge of my shoulder and down my arm it's a no (I never have the opposite problem my shoulders aren't that broad).
    2. Does the fabric provide a close comfortable fit on my arm. It shouldn't feel tight nor should there be gaping especially at the cuff.
    3. Is the sweater comfortable and flattering open and buttoned up? Does the fabric lay smoothly over my body? If it creates a boxy shape it's too big.
I am almost always looking for perfect fit (as opposed to over-sized or shrunken/body con) and this is how I usually go about getting it.

Girl, I know!  I have this same cardigan in navy, and I used to have yellow.  The yellow got kinda grungy and had to go, and the navy is getting faded :( :( :(  I don't want to let it go, because they don't make them in 100% cotton anymore :( :( :(

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

I love #1 - professional outfit with a lot of personality and playfulness. I think the colour is beautiful and every single way you've styled this cardigan practically makes it a neutral in your wardrobe.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

That shade of blue is beautiful on you, DV. No wonder you love this cardigan. It loves you right back.

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

You look so good in that color blue. It seems like pregnancy is treating you well!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Aquamarine - Only pic #1 is an evolving pregnancy picture. The rest of them are me remembering "the glory days" ;-)

  • Missey replied 10 years ago

It should be a favorite...the color is glorious on you!  I especially love the cardi paired with coral.  Made me smile :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I love your explanations about how you fit this so well. Very helpful, because if anyone understands good fit, it is you.

Also, isn't it great to have something in the closet that never lets you down? Not to mention an outfit you can repeat and never get tired of it?

This shade of blue is lovely on you. No wonder you love the sweater.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

Isn't it great to have such a versatile item of clothing in your wardrobe? That sweater looks fantastic on you!

  • deb replied 10 years ago

I am so glad you are back! That color of blue is fantastic on you.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

The color is wonderful on you and you have shown how versatile it can be - a true wardrobe workhouse and deservedly so.

  • SarahTheWhite replied 10 years ago

I am so inspired by how many different outfits you got out of that one sweater... And how completely different they are, and how beautiful you look in them. Just all around inspired. :-)

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

Beautiful shade of blue! I love the variety of ways you've worn this. I'm especially impressed with the belted ones, since it always looks funny when try to belt over cardigans.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You positively glow, especially in that shade of blue. How are you feeling? I love your outfit for the meeting, and all the others too.

  • MsMaven replied 10 years ago

Great look, business like yet approachable.

I look forward to seeing what else you will come up with in the next few months,

  • adorkable replied 10 years ago

    Love this color on you!

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

It looks great on you! I love how the color is bright but also fairly basic and blendable.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Joy - I am feeling wonderful. I have cut back on desserts but not by choice -- I simply can't tolerate the after taste of most sweets. Bland easily digestible food is my best friend mmm ... salted potatoes with butter :-)

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

You look AMAZING.  Of course.  How do manage to look so smooth and sleek in these layers?  I would be a wrinkled lumpy hot mess... Is there a secret?

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

I am impressed by how you layer a cami, button down and cardi and come out looking sleek. You really have got fit down pat.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Una / Lantana - My "secret" is a good bra, with a shapewear cami on top of it. Everything else is fit.

  • E replied 10 years ago

Yay for favourite cardis! I love how versatile cardigans are. :D

Your blue one is stunning, both the fit and the colour, and it was so fun to see the different ways you've worn it. Your personal style just shines through, uniting all of the outfits.

  • jacquez replied 10 years ago

Wow, I love the look in #3 -- I like all of them, but that looks...I don't quite know how to say it?  Modern, fresh, put-together, and somehow both grown-up/polished and youthful.  Just perfect!

  • replied 10 years ago

I totally lost my sweet tooth both times I was pregnant. But salty rich foods were so delicious.

I love this colour on you, and you have mastered the art of layering, that is for sure.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Ceit - I thought I was losing my mind. Everything I'd ever heard lead me to believe I'd be eating everything in sight especially sweets. Lost sweet tooth is normal YAY!
