Ombre, stripes and neon

I am pretty sure that before YLF I would never have put this outfit together. Nothing "matches".  All of the colors are complementary which is the basis of the harmony but these pieces were purchased separately. I fell in love with the neon yellow shorts when I saw them at J Crew. They are my perfect 5" length. My shoes are Puma ballet flats and the top and sweater is predictably enough from Old Navy. I guess the secret is out as far as where I get my basics.

You look adorable! So fresh and bright. I like the way the colours complement but do not match. Clever.

This is such a lovely relalxed look.  I find the ombre effect very attractive and appealing.    These colours are lovey on you.

Well it's no secret that this is a great casual outfit! I love those stores too :)

Great combination. My neon yellow shorts have been work horses this summer too. So pretty--you look very citrusy and fresh!

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

I see why those shorts are your perfect length! Cool enough for summer, but shows off your gams! :)

    Yes, lovely hamonies.

Everything goes together so well without matching. Looks good!

I love this, too! So fresh and summery.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Citrusy fresh!  The intensity and saturation of the colors is well balanced, too, DV.  I like with the sweater the best -- something about the long over short proportion.

It feels a little like Summer again, doesn't it?

Welcome back, DV! I've missed you! (I've been oof (off of forum!) a lot lately too because of too much work.) You look just as gorgeous and totally put together as always.

I love that you said you wouldn't have thought to put the colors together before YLF. I always think of you as having the most amazing understanding of color mixing. I think maybe the forum  just took something you were already brilliant at and gave you a nudge to perfect it even more. These colors look fresh, fabulous and exuberantly fun. Beautiful.

(And by the way, you just have miles of legs don't you! So gorgeous. And these shorts are perfect to highlight them. No wonder you call them your perfect length.)

ETA: Were you oof when I shortened my name from KCanShop to K?

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

Ah, I'm sure these pieces are so happy you have discovered YLF and let them play together. Too fun. I think you could style a potato sack to look vibrant and feminine.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

Harmonies, what an excellent word (!). The colours really do come together. I love the tank top ombre.

I have gotten some absolutely favourite things at ON: Some low vamp topsiders (sadly wearing out) and a citron sweatshirt. But I do always feel like I could have found more. My neighbor just makes out at Old Navy and looks fantastic. I suppose I get overwhelmed in the stores; they're big.

  • christieanne replied 10 years ago

I like Old Navy for basics - they make it easy to buy into a trend or try a fun color. Seeing your post and Angie's blog today made me realize I have no shorts. OUr summers aren't really warm enough to make them a necessity. THe two or three truly warm days I wore a loose a line skirt and was happy.
Now I wish I had tried on some shorts earlier in the year!

Sometimes colors don't need to match but just "go" and the similar brightness of tone in these is indeed harmonic.

I love those colors together. so fresh and fun. You have fabulous legs, by the way!!

  • Kat replied 10 years ago

I am consistently impressed by your eye for harmonizing color-you truly have a gift for it!  You look lovely.

Beth Ann -- Yep, feeling like summer again around these parts. I can deal with summer but not heatwave. Fingers crossed that heatwave does not show up and decides to take up residence.

K - I think I was still on the forum when you shortened your name. I missed you too while I was off the forum. I could live off your complements for days :-D

Ornella - shall we put together a potato sack challenge? LOL! I'm glad you have that much faith in my skills. I'm sure your potato sack would include a stylish coordinating hat.

Rachy - I have not forgotten about your aversion to too much store. I felt the full weight of too many choices too when I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk for months. Big box stores were too much to handle with out lots of help.

Christieanne -- I really don't have that many pairs of shorts although where I live there is definitely a summer that's warm enough to warrant them. I generally prefer short skirts or dresses and have plenty of them. For the longest time I had problems with shorts that bunched and rode up. Finding the right cut was the turning point for me.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

LOL... Matchy-matchy delight: straw hat with black strip and black belt to accentuate the waist, and I'm sorted.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Ornella - Sorted indeed -- gotta accentuate that waist!

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I'll say it again, you have gorgeous legs!  And it seems you really know your colors, I have seen you look great in so many different ones.  How did you come about this, did you get your colors done or is it trial and error?  Also I have noticed that there are people, like Goldenpig, who can wear a wider range than others.  Maybe you are a member of this lucky category.
