Outfit Formula: Jacket, Turtleneck & Trousers

My saving grace this first week back to work was sitting down the week before and planning outfits for the following two weeks. This has its pros and cons.

Pro - I don't have to think about what to wear in the mornings or the night before. Even if I do not wear the outfit exactly as planned, I don't have to start from scratch if one of the pieces is off proportionally.

Con- by not trying these outfits on before I decide to wear them, the proportions may be off. It is true that recycle old outfits based on my posts and tweak them here and there if needed. However, I changed one element of my Wednesday outfit and it threw everything off. I'd gotten my new favorite shirt in the mail and being on Team Wear I wanted to wear the shirt immediately. I figured I could work it in to my blue on blue trouser jacket combination. It didn't work at all. I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out what to wear instead since the top I'd originally planned was not warm enough for the frigid temperatures that day. Picture #3 is the result.

I regret that I could not capture all of the outfits I wore this week. When I finally figured out how to wear my new shirt (Thursday and not picutured) it was such an active LONG day that I never got the chance to snap a photo. I am still playing around with location and angles too in my new place so these pics are not the best -- so I apologize.

I noticed a theme when I looked at my outfits this week, hence the title of this post. It was cold, but I felt warm, crisp, and confident. Also in #1 I took that picture at the end of the day (I don't usually like that because everything is all creased by then). Those trousers are a lovely winter-weight wool in a rich black color. I got them from Talbot's, but I am upset because the picture makes them appear as if they're too short since I am leaning forward ever so slightly. Oh well!

I love all your looks .... especially number 1.  Your hair is lovely as well.

i hate it when i picture an outfit in my head, then it doesn't work IRL, and since i, unfortunately, am not organized enough to try things in advance, usually discover it as I'm getting ready in the morning. then its a mad scramble to find something else.
looks like you had a good week,  love the bright blue on you.

1 and 3 are my favorites. Especially 1, with the deep cobalt blue that suits you so well. I really dig the necklace effect in 3 on you.

You look professional and stylish in each look. Your jackets really make each outfit for me. Love the blue in #1 and coral top in #2 and the necklace in #3. The pants look like a great fit.

That happens to me all the time! I plan an outfit and then it doesn't work together. You look great!

Joy - I really enjoyed wearing #3 though it was impromptu. Those trousers are BR all season wool in navy. I love the fit on them. I'm disappointed that #3's outfit did not photograph the details very well.
That coral top is one of my favorites -- I bought that sweater primarily because I fell in love with the color.

Krishnidoux- Cobalt is my absolute favorite color and I think that's happiness you're seeing.

kkards - IKWYM! which is how I ended up wearing turtlenecks for most of the week. Their proportions always work well with trousers and a jacket on me.

They all look great. That's been my outfit formula for the past few weeks, too! (Live in New England) warm but neat and professional. I know what you mean about the proportions of a new piece being just off and not working they way you hoped it would. Sometimes I spend a Sunday afternoon just trying combos on so I don't have to stress in the morning. But I realize you are a busy new mom and that might not be possible!

Wonderful looks for your first week back...I bet you had fashionista fun trying and eliminating...that is always fun for me...
But the most important question of all....how did DD do in her first week of "school"?...I can only imagine how tight you held her when you first picked her up...What a lot of blessings all thrown in together!

This has also been my theme this winter . I especially like 1 because of the different textures and the cobalt.
You looked very sharp in your work outfits and pre planning is really worthwhile even with setbacks.

These outfits all look good.  I plan my outfits out the night before and sometimes a couple days before.  I have the same problem where sometimes things don't work out like I think they will and I don't have time then to figure out the perfect solution.

#3 is great, as are the others. A good work formula. Ok, but I have to say it: Where's Tuesday's jewelry? Lol

Great uniform - you look stylish and professional

Great outfits! My favorite is #2, because I like color!

Jacket Lady--love your jackets. I am very much a jacket person, especially lately when my inner thermostat doesn't work so well, (And I don't live in a cold climate.) Very very nice.

jackets are such a savior for winter dressing.
