So the sweater under my jacket is a beautiful shade of merlot. I picked it up while shopping this past Saturday with Beth Ann. It's mohair, which I have loved since I was a child. I'd been looking for something else other than a white button-down to pair this skirt with and I think I put together a nice equestrian inspired outfit. What do you think?

You had me with merlot-colored mohair...so yummy! I love pairing burgundies and browns so I think this looks fab.

I think it is fab! I love how your boots pick the color from the skirt's pattern - and hey, how can you go wrong with merlot!

Killer gorgeous. I love mohair too - I wish I could wear it.
I adore the '70s vibe of the boots with the skirt. Delish.

Beautiful sweater and colors, the longer line of your skirt is pretty.

This is an extremely elegant take on a 70s vibe. Gorgeous!
We are seeing quite a few of these elegant plaid midis on the forum lately! Hmmm. Something in the air.

Suz -- I think it's in the air and the water. Midi's are big and plaids are big in my book this season.
Aquamarine -- I am not sure what's going on with me this season but I can't seem to find a red, wine or berry tone that I don't like.
Sveta - It's very hard to go wrong with Merlot. I really wasn't going for 70's but I think when it comes to a plaid midi that's where I'm stuck -- my Mom had tons of them that she wore like this during that time.
Angie -- you must be allergic to mohair. :-( I think when I was younger it made me itch and sneeze. As I got older I got addicted to the plush softness of it. The only drawback is the shedding.
Shannon -- I have to agree with you on the color palette. I had not realized that merlot would add so much dimension and richness to the browns. This has been the most satisfying combination I've made with this skirt.

YLF. Love the colour - so wish I could wear mohair (or any wool for that matter).

Day Vies, I have very fussy skin and nasal passages unfortunately.

Day Vies- love this look and your superb choice of colors and textures.
I also like how your hair plays into the combination. I would be happy to have half your skill in creating a total look so consistently.

I love the color of that sweater! Mohair drives my skin crazy with itchiness, but gosh does it look so fab and luxurious.
YLF!!

This time I'd so love to see the outfit in real life. The photo looks so rich but can't possibly do justice to merlot mohair. You look knock'm-dead fabulous.

Your flawless eye for color and proportion impresses me every time! This is a fabulous outfit that Ralph Lauren would approve of.
-
Day Vies replied 10 years ago
Coco- I just sent you a message mentioning Ralph Lauren.
Joy - everything is better in real life.
Angie - I'm that way when it comes to anything that lives underwater.
JillG - The boots are Rockports. I have found they make some surprisingly stylish boots and booties for women. Generally when I think Rockport I think about my calculus professor and his unfab utilitarianism.
Seems like for most mohair is better seen than worn ;-)

I have the same problem as Angie -- the little fibres get in my nose and I can't stand it!

This really plucks at my heartstrings because it looks just like something I would have worn back in high school or college in the 70s -- in the best, best, possible way! You look fab!!!

Thanks MaryK! It's so interesting to me that this turned out to be such a retro outfit. As I said before I get stuck in the 70's with plaid midi skirts because my default is pairing them with tall boots. I think I might try switching it up with a round-toe Mary Jane and colored tights for a 30's /40's look.

I missed this post, DV! I love the sweater with the skirt! I'm a fan of midis with tall boots, too. Kudos to you for trying the regular and the petite to get just the right fit!

Day Vies replied 10 years ago
Yeah Beth Ann -- that is exactly why it takes me so long in the fitting room I have to try on EVERY size.

I am fascinated with the process of getting dressed every day -- to me this is more challenging than getting dressed for a big event because what I wear is dictated by my activities, work environment, and the weather. Living in a climate that guarantees four seasons (or at least two extremes) provides both challenges and inspiration.
