The incredible shrinking wardrobe

This was a rather quiet week. I have been spending more time sleeping during the day and when I'm not sleeping I'm researching products for my registry. So I apologize for my absence from the forum.

So this week, I finally put away my turtlenecks and heavy sweaters and winter gear (yay!). I think this is the latest I have ever waited. I have also stored items I just can't wear and won't be wearing anytime soon. That leaves a small universe of items I wear again and again. (I've spared you the photos!) Perhaps I'm a little sad that my big fun wardrobe has shrunk so much and I have to work a lot harder to create looks that are me, fit my bump and other parts that have grown, and are weather appropriate.

In #1 I wore this yesterday. We got a nice sampling of summer-like weather. So I pulled out my favorite butterfly dress from ON and paired it with an ON boyfriend sweater in fuchsia. My flats are cobalt and fuchsia suede Enzo Angiolini. Not pictured is my orange tote I carried

In #2 I wore this ON tunic earlier this week. I believe Karie has a top with this exact print. I mixed it up a little by wearing a pair of gray/cream houndstooth flats with a big metallic bow at the toe. I am also wearing skinny jeans I picked up from target about 5 years ago (I can't believe they still zip! Then again I did buy them 3 sizes up.)

As always suggestions ( to lift me out of boredom with my wardrobe!) and feedback are welcomed. Happy Mother's Day Weekend to all!

I love the butterfly dress and those cute flats. It's so Spring-y.

You are GLOWING! So beautiful! I love the fun shoe with your lovely dress and the stripes and houndstooth are adorable with your skinnies.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You're doing a fab job maintaining your style during the most difficult part of it - when things quit fitting the same and you're not ready for maternity gear. Well done!

Do you know the button trick to extend the wearability of a skirt? If the skirt has a zipper and button, you can use a rubberband or a hair elastic looped through the buttonhole and around the button to give you a couple of extra inches. Wear with a long shirt or jacket and, voila! I think they sell a little doodad to do this too, but you can make your own.

Two great Spring outfits! I love the fun colors in the dress, with the pretty flats, sweater (and imagining the orange bag)--lovely! The blue and white stripes are fresh looking too.

You look positively smashing in that butterfly dress DV! A beautiful silhouette and very spring-like.

Yeah for spring!!  I think it is finally here  :)

Love the butterfly dress. So beautiful, and so very springlike. I especially like #2.  Flattering, and fun with the shoes.

I remember being so worried about the registry and making sure I "had everything".  I won't even confess how much of the must haves we never used, or DD refused to use.  No reasoning with babies, alas.   :)

I really love that butterfly dress, esp. with cardi and shoes you've chosen. It's so Princess Diana to me, and your style reminds me of Princess Di's. You've got flare, but you're also trim and tidy. And also, I have this idea that you're very tall.

But not crazy of course. I mean, you remind of Princess Di without the crazy bits...

Day Vies, you look fantastic and your style does not look like is suffering for lack of items, boredom notwithstanding.

The farther along in pregnancy, all the better to focus on non-size-dependent items - lipstick, a bag, a scarf - to mix things up a bit without having to worry about whether it will fit next week. Or splurge on a mani/pedi. Or all of the above!

butterfly dress still fits AWESOMELY!!! - and the stripes - ooooo - the stripes with the little houndstooth flats - brilliant.  You're doing a great job with your limited ingredients and look beautiful!

    You look wonderful! :)

Fantastic. Your shoe choices are so awesome !  Happy Spring !

Zibbets - I have tried that hair band trick with a number of my pants and jeans. Skirts not so much, because I generally don't have the button and button hole. I have clips --  and invisible zippers on the seam which help create a nice flat waistband but don't exactly extend the shelf life of my skirts.

Thistle - I think that's my #1 worry putting a bunch of crap on my registry that won't get used and end up in a dusty closet somewhere.

Rachy - you are not alone in your belief that I am really tall. No matter how many times I write it on the forum it never seems to stick that I am an average sized lady, only 5'5" tall. I approach tall when I put on a 3.5" -4" pair of heels. Princess Di is a lovely comparison and is especially soothing since I'm not feeling very princess-y these days.

Torontogirl - you have the right idea. I have been looking at my feet and thinking a pedicure would be awesome especially since the weather has warmed up. A nice pedicure would open up the world of peep-toe shoes I have sitting on the shelf. I have also been looking at my scarves and necklaces thinking I need to start using them more. I also need to dig up the scarves with the brighter spring colors.

Another vote for becoming an accessory expert to keep having fun with fashion!  I've been playing with necklaces again, and this spring has been good for lightweight scarves -- next week will be cool again!

Love the crisp stripes and the floaty butterflies!  No one else will be bored!

It is so hard to know what they will and won't like. They are all so different.

A close friend's son *loved* his swing. Loved it. You put him in it and he went right to sleep. I figured this is something we "must" have.  DD didn't spend more than 10 minutes in hers. Every time I put her in it, she screamed bloody murder! Didn't matter which way it swung or if it played music or not.

My SIL gave us a ton of her special swaddling blankets. Her DD hated being swaddled. Our DD loved it. Just like our DD hated any and all baby carriers. She wanted to be held constantly, but on your lap. My SIL's DD loved her Maya wrap but screamed if you but her in a Baby Bjorn.  (yeah, lotta screaming)

Ah well. Just part of the ride, I guess. :)

I remember this phase of pregnancy well!  I totally agree with Torontogirl that non-sized items are key.  I got a bag in a color I really liked to keep things interesting and wore more jewelry and scarves.

Also, I would caution you against buying shoes.  My feet used to be between an 8-8.5 before pregnancy and are not 8.5-9.  I'm 6 months post partum and am wondering if this is the new normal for my feet or if there is hope of them shrinking back.

    YLF.

Thistle - I guess you're telling me that it doesn't really matter what I put on the list DD will decide what will and won't get used when she gets here! :-)

Beth Ann - I think I need to start pinning accessories again. I haven't been using them and there just isn't ANY spark of creativity happening these days. Not sure what that's about but it seems like accessories are where it's going to be for the next 84 days.

Suja - Ironically I can't bear the idea of shoe shopping all of that bending over and stooping. Can I just point and someone brings the shoe to me & puts it on my foot? :-D Actually I just happen to have tons of peep-toes shoes which are only appropriate in the spring and summer when the weather is cooperating my feet are "done". My feet haven't expanded much, nor have my fingers (wedding set still slips on and off with ease). I'm just looking forward to having more lace-less shoe options especially since I need more accessories to play with to keep my current wardrobe interesting.

You look fab!  I love, love, love that striped top!!

I totally agree that the baby will decide what she likes once she gets here.  I still remember, 27 years later, how surprised I was when DS came out as this specific person, with a particular personality and preferences already in place, rather than this little blank slate who would go along with MY program!  LOL
