WIW to shop w/DH

Surprisingly two of my many aunts thought it would be a great idea to get me gift cards so that I can start building my wardrobe. DH got one too for starting his new job so he went with me to shop for himself.

I am so pleased with what I found shopping today -- two more vegan jackets!  These are for indoors to be worn like blazers and I am sure you all will be seeing them soon because I can't wait to wear them.

Today's outfit was inspired by one of my pins. I thought I did a pretty good job making an exact copy (waiving at MaryK and Ingunn). I probably would not have put this color combination together myself. I'm quite happy with it because it gave me a chance to do something different with my military jacket.  Tell me what you think.

I am at awe with your ability - if you can make this sort of military jacket look ladylike, then the sky is your limit! And all that - with gingham. Is it the bag that does the trick? No idea, but it looks absolutely great. Taking notes...

Btw, I am missing something here, your handsome accessory ;-)

Looking forward to seeing your new jackets in action. Anything, actually. If one gave you a potato sack, you could style it to go to the ball.

Ornella is correct!  You look stunning, and this is an unusual pairing and colour combo.  I think you have a wonderful ability to really "carry" your look. There is a confidence about you that is very attractive and allow you to boss your clothes around rather than the other way around.

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

Wowed again. You have me seriously rethinking gingham.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Gingham with military green (taking notes :) )  And what a perfect copy of the pinterest pic!  You look lovely!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I love it! This unexpected combination works beautifully.

  • catherine replied 10 years ago

Lovely.  You have such a knack for looking beautiful in all of your outfits.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Agree that you always look just so in the best way. Great pick!

  • Mochi replied 10 years ago

You look fantastic and yes, you do come up with amazing combos that no one would ever have thought of. Perfect splash of boyishness into your feminine look.

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

Lovely copycatting, I think that combo is gorgeous.

I have long had a bias against crisp looks, preferring lightly rumpled in order to avoid looking uptight. However, you make crisp so approachable and ... cuddly, if you don't mind me saying that, and so you are rocking my world view. I am enjoying the ride, though. Thank you.

    Love those colors together!

  • Jan replied 10 years ago

Love this. What is your secret to looking so crisp?

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

You look super. The military jacket is a fab juxtaposition of tension against your polished gorgeousness.

I have finally arisen from slumber. This "fall back" has been a welcomed change. I did not like the idea of leaving the house in the morning while it was still dark. Any way.

I was really enamored by the pinterest picture that inspired this look and truly enjoyed the juxtaposition.

Ornella - my accessory was just outside of the shot. He was still getting ready to go. :-) As far as how I am able to make this look ladylike, hmm... I really didn't do much in the way of accessories. I think if pressed to answer I would say everything has been pressed (not the day of but at some point before wearing) and the fact that the shirt hem is tucked and the sleeves are neatly rolled instead of scrunched. I think the overall neat appearance makes this "ladylike" even if it is a military jacket khakis and a flannel gingham shirt.

Deborah - I really appreciate what you said about my ability to "carry" a look. I definitely like to try different things but in all fairness I really don't think I try anything too far beyond my comfort zone. I know where I live sartorially. RATE though I admire it, is not a look that I could carry, nor is a look that is overly relaxed and beachy.

Lantana - I have been rethinking plaid and gingham for the past few months. Before this fall season neither existed in my closet. I think it was all of the pins I kept seeing and how differently these patterns were styled that got me thinking differently. I encourage you to play around with at least one item.

Mochi -- I think you're right it's the boyishness that I like in this outfit. A man could turn around and wear these exact pieces (maybe not the shoes) and look quite "manly". There I go again with my special brand of androgyny. Interesting I hadn't considered that until you mentioned it.

JulieJohn - wow I'm glad I could give you a different perspective on crisp looks. Yes my bias is toward crispy (wow are we talking potato chips here ??? ;-)) looks but I never aim to be unapproachable. I keep hearing my mom's admonitions from when I was a little girl "look neat". I just want to look neat.

Jan0912 - I think my secret is not much of a secret. I think it's my preference for structure in my clothing. I have a rounded "cuddly" body (I have frequently been referred to as a bear -- as in teddy bear by many of my friends over the years. Oddly enough these friends did not know each other). I don't like too much fluid or flow in my clothes -- some is nice.  So I think the structured pieces I prefer are a good skeleton for the perfect balance of form and flow -- I think that's where my crispness  comes from.

Angie - I think you put your finger on the pulse of why this looks works.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Love this look, and I swear, you can wear any color! And who knew gingham could be so polished!  So glad you have some funds to build a "Work Trousseau."

Curiously, as another curvilinear girl, I think I use exactly the opposite proportion of form to flow --- as if you are 70/30 and I'm 30/70.  I like fluid fabrics best, but with structural details like well placed shoulder seams.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I can see that Beth Ann the proportion of form and flow. It also makes me think about how other ladies on the forum used or don't use form and flow to express their unique style. You exhibit such a fabulous intellectualism in your approach to style. Thank you so much for commenting!

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

I love what you wrote in your comment:

I know where I live sartorially.

You certainly do and that is my ultimate goal too.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Nice polished casual look!  And I like your weekend looks pin board.  Now following.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I think you are just inherently polished so everything you wear looks that way. What a fantastic outfit! Love the juxtaposition but also love the bag with this.

So glad you had fun shopping.

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

Gingham really is so versaitle and love your styleing here!  Can't wait to see the new vegan leather jackets!

  • Jan replied 10 years ago

It appears your impeccable grooming has a bit to do with the crispness, or better put - polish as well.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

I'm going to quote you to DH --- I'll wait for just the right moment!  hee!
I may use a higher portion of "flow," but I learn from your polish and attention to detail (ironing, anyone?) all the time!
