Chambray + full skirt

The happiness factor is very high with this outfit -- the skirt was swishy. Unfortunately the weather was rainy and cold.
I am more than happy to consider your styling suggestions. Happy weekend!

Love, love, love this DayVies! Your swishy skirt is just so, well, fabulously swishy!

Nicole D replied 11 years agoAre you kidding? What a fabulous and faithful interpretation. This look is stunning! Where is your waist? Love it and love your hair too (as always, you have great hair).
-
Echo replied 11 years agoOh, you look gorgeous! I LOVE how the skirt and top make your waist look so tiny, and this is such a great look. Fantastic! Your hair is beautiful, too!
-
rachylou replied 11 years agoI definitely get the inspiration coming through!
Your hair is super cool. Changing it up a bit :)

You look a hundred times better than the inspiration photo. You really should model as it seems you make anything you wear look good.

Oh I think it looks fantastic, you nailed it! I love the hair, too. :-)

Day Vies replied 11 years agoNicole -- Yep I was wondering that too. Where is my waist? Trust me it's there but a really big skirt makes a not-so-tiny waist look tiny.
Echo-- I am thinking of investing in more swishy skirts -- I look hourglassy (an apple masquerading as an hourglass!) I used to avoid belts because I thought they emphasized my not-so-tiny waistline.
Rachy -- I think this inspiration was SO easy to pull off no thought required other than ooooh, I like that.
Joy -- that is SO sweet, thank you! I doubt if I could make burlap look good, but I am glad have your vote confidence!

Tanya replied 11 years agoYou look stunning Day Vies! Million times better than the inspiration, kind of like a movie star in the 50's.
-
Karie replied 11 years agoLove, love, love - love the hair, love the outfit, love your smile! Seriously, you rock this way better than the inspiration model!

You look sooooo fab. I love that swishy skirt! Do you mind sharing where you got it?
-
Day Vies replied 11 years agoThistle -- the skirt is from Modcloth. I have it in a 1x -- roomy and comfy.
Tanya - you are so kind! I heart the 50's and I am constantly pinning looks that remind me of that era.
Karie -- thank you -- I am completely convinced that you all are biased, but I'll take it after the week I've had.

Suz replied 11 years agoThis is such a change from the expected pencil skirt or the typical denim Friday, and so terrifically fun.
Can I ask how you decide on your hair/ outfit combinations? To me it seems as if you always pick exactly the right combinations. And it's so thrilling to see the variation you're able to achieve because I pretty much always wear mine the same way. One of our picture challenges inspired me to style it one day as a sort of 30s marcel, and another day as a sort of 70s "shag" (as close as i could muster) and another day with bangs back in a Mia Farrow look. But IRL I almost always leave it the same way. I get a tiny bit of variation depending on whether I use a flat iron on the bang or let it be textured.
So...do you decide on hair first and then outfit, or the other way?

Sveta replied 11 years agoIt is so fresh to see you in a swishy flared skirt! You really rock it!

Amazing!

Day Vies replied 11 years agoSuz -- I never thought about my hair as an accessory to my outfit before YLF. I realize each has an effect on the presentation of the other.
I actually choose my outfit first then I style my hair. Honestly my hair choices are not influenced by my outfit choices -- except for special occasions. Generally because it's easy I wear my hair in a ponytail. When I wear it loose and free, it's because I planned to wear it like this the night before (it takes effort). I think it works out because I aim for hairstyles that work for my face.
Also with curly hair there is an element of unpredictability you never know what they (the curls) have in mind.

I love your version! What a smashing silhouette on you. I love seeing your WIWs. And your hair looks beautiful too.
-
amiable replied 11 years agoWow! You always look stunning, but especially so in this!
-
Suz replied 11 years agoYeah, that is sort of what I figured (about the unpredictability, I mean). It's so interesting how well your hair plays against your very polished style when it's in curls, and how well it meshes with it when you smooth it back! Well, however you do it, it looks great!!

Beth Ann replied 11 years agoPinned it, but I like your version even better, so I'll favorite it right away!
I could see this with an open shirt and colored cami and wedges for the feet!

You look like a star, Day Vies. I particularly like the textured hair with the skirt, they complete eachother so well. The chambray brings an element of modern into this classic combination. You make me reach for my own chambray and my widest skirt today. Perfect!
-
replied 11 years agoLovely! My only thought was maybe a small dash of red.

anne replied 11 years agoYou look absolutely fantastic! Bravo!
-
Angie replied 11 years agoKILLER you gorgeously sassy creature!
I love the wild hair with the retro outfit. Very 2013 :)

Beyond beautiful! I love how it all works together.
-
Transcona Shannon replied 11 years agoOh you need to go dancing in this outfit DV so you can twirl and swish!!! This is beautiful on you.

I love these dark blues together with black, so sophisticated. The texture of your curls and the sparkle of a little jewellery send this outfit into orbit. I think you should hunt down more swishy skirts and more waist cinching belts. This is a great look on you. That's my completely unbiased opinion :)

MsMary replied 11 years agoWowzers, this is fantastic! No wonder your happiness factor was high -- my happiness factor is high just looking at you!! :)

I am fascinated with the process of getting dressed every day -- to me this is more challenging than getting dressed for a big event because what I wear is dictated by my activities, work environment, and the weather. Living in a climate that guarantees four seasons (or at least two extremes) provides both challenges and inspiration.
