Sunday Errands

I had this outfit ready to go because I put a bunch of transitional outfits together in this post. Once again I was able to get out of the house quickly because I wasn't doing the blank stare into the depths of the closet asking the age-old question, "what am I going to wear?" Sometimes trying to answer that would keep me in the house for the rest of the day.

I'd neglected the stock-up type of grocery shopping so today was a marathon. I was very comfortable and probably looked a lot better than I felt. I am just ready for a hot bath, I would have rather spent my time draped across the couch than pushing a cart though the aisles of the grocery store. Thanks for looking.

I'm wearing:

BR twill military jacket

Simply Vera Wang sleeveless tee

Vera Wang ballet flats

Daisy Fuentes trouser jeans

The Unmatched Suit on Assignment

I am so pleased that I landed my newest assignment which will last through the end of the year. The location is nice, the people are nice and the free snacks are a neat perk.
I was told to wear a suit on the first day -- so I did. I'd also straightened my hair for the occasion since it's been cooler. 45 minutes of straightening was completely wasted (as you see I have pulled all of my hair straight back). The humidity was too great! But I chose to wear an unmatched suit because I knew the client was business casual but my company wanted to make a good impression. I thought this was a great compromise. Normally I would wear heels but the location is about 3/4 of a mile from where I get off the train and I did not want to carry both my lunch and alternate shoes.

I am wearing:

  • Kasper single button jacket in blue and white (there is a rule that busty ladies should not wear a single button jacket but I really believe that it depends on where the button hits you on your torso)
  • BR navy stretch twill pencil skirt
  • silver satin shell
  • pewter buckle flats
Are there any fans of the unmatched suit out there?

Navy, pink and white

Another one of my color combo crushes. I just love how this combination works well for the fall.

I've decided it it's worth driving on the nights that I have class because the cost of the train and the cost of parking are relatively equal. The only drawback is I have to be prepared for a walk across down town (hence the flats today).

I originally wore this oufit on an assignment about 10 days ago and the folks there thought I was "dressed up" so I thought it would be perfectly fine to wear to class. I also realized that wearing boot cut trousers do not have the same jarring effect on me as wearing boot cut jeans (why that is I don't know).

I am wearing:
GAP boot cut trousers
Old Navy striped tee
Enzo Angiolini color blocked point-toe flats
Vintage fuchsia sweater

Thanks for looking ;-)

WIW to the Art Institute

I'd planned to wear another outfit which I'd already assembled but the weather was much cooler today than I anticipated. I settled on this gray and navy number because I loved the way the neckline framed my blue topaz pendant. Gray and navy are also huge this fall anyway. I enjoyed the exhibit which was on the Impressionists and their influence on fashion in 19th century Paris.

I would wear this outfit again. I loved how the detail on the blouse sort of stood in for my need for high contrast color. This outfit also gives me the chance to wear my own BR Martin fit trousers. I was admiring Sveta's this weekend and remembered that I had a pair of my own.

Thanks for looking!

Modern Classic Outfit From My Fall Capsule

So unfortunately the start date for my assignment got pushed back to Friday 9/27. But I will take a Friday over no day :-) As a result daily outfit posts won't start until then.

But I was able to get out of the house in record time because I reached for one of my capsule outfits. It's now cool enough to start wearing those outfits so I am pretty excited. (Barely any jewelry needed) I went to pick out a new rug in anticipation of my party next month. I found the perfect rug (on sale!) to go with subtle beach theme in my living room (no obvious shells and starfish!).

I realized I am quite used to seeing myself in my skinnies and wide-leg jeans. Today I am wearing my boot cuts and it's a little jarring. I haven't worn them in at least six months. Have any of you had the same reaction to your boot cuts?

Gingham, eyelet and pearls

Those ingredients do not sound like the elements of a city slicker's outfit but indeed they are. I wore this to my weekly excursion to the Target. (Was anybody else underwhelmed with the Phillip Lim collection? Perhaps it just wasn't my style?) I got a really late start -- I left home at 7:30 pm. I'm such a night owl. Anyway I am wearing:

  • Old Navy shirt and tank
  • J Crew eyelet skirt
  • Old Navy Denim Jacket
  • Liz Claiborne yellow tote
  • Crocs
Tell me what you think?

Tried it anyway and won!

Today I am wearing a most perfect blouse. Normally, I would not go for a sheer button-front blouse with pockets at the bust. I just couldn't resist the snake print called out to me and I picked up the blouse in gray/white and beige/cream. It doesn't slide around as I anticipated and the pockets aren't distracting at all. Score 1 for team try it anyway.

Tonight I have class. I prefer to dress for class simply because of who I could run into on the way there and to impress upon my instructors (who are practitioners) that I am a professional. And speaking of professionals I now have a long-term temp assignment that starts Monday. Back to daily outfit posts :-) YAY! My assignment is the perfect place to park myself for my last semester of my masters program, rack up experience in my specialty and await the all important bar results due out in less than two weeks.

Have any of you "tried it anyway" when it came to a piece of clothing that "common sense/experience" predicted wouldn't work?

Playing in the closet again

So, I have a few events coming up and the weather has shifted from 90's to the 60's. I certainly want to break out with the fall attire but I am not quite ready for fall's moody color palette. I like soft gray because it's light and airy with white and lightens up black I decided to work with a few new items:

  • Gray Old Navy Rockstar jeans
  • Silver and beige Vera Wang Ballet flats
  • Fit and flare black and white dress
  • Blue & Gray sleeveless Simply Vera tee
I also thought this would be a great exercise today because DH's birthday is Sunday, I am going to a party tomorrow night, and I'm attending an evening reception at the Art Institute in the next few weeks. These are my favorite outfits I came up with. I can't really call this a capsule as the inspiration for some of these outfits come directly from or were inspired by my Pinterest boards. No make up in any of the pics ( I hope I don't scare anybody ;-)) Let me know what you think.

BTW #16 is going to the party tomorrow. I twisted my ankle slightly earlier this week so standing around and dancing in heels is not going to work.

Dressing up my crocs

I  had an appointment this afternoon and selected appropriately cheerful colors and patterns. Because I knew I would be doing plenty of walking down town I decided to wear my crocs for practical reasons. I also wanted to make sure it didn't look like I slapped them on my feet and my "real" shoes were in my bag. I thought this was fun tell me what you think are the crocs sufficiently integrated?

Midi skirt gingham and pearls

So this morning was a complete whirlwind of activity (interviews). I decided to remix a few of my old pieces: a denim midi, a gingham shirt, and tank. I think the addition of the pearls elevate the look so that I don't look like an off-duty cowgirl. I really love the results.

I have been getting reacquainted with the midi skirt post-YLF. I have always had a few in my wardrobe  but I have been spending lots of time looking over the proportions. I don't want to look like a throw-back. Let me know what you think and what ideas you have for styling midi skirts.

BTW -- I finally figured out how to work the camera in conjunction with the tripod, so the image quality of my photos will be much better. I heart self-timers.
