Hair on the loose and a care free Turkey Day!

So this is what I wore when DH and I went out for Thanksgiving dinner. No crazy family tension, or dishes to do just upside :-D

Today was a good hair day! I needed something to go with my red black and white outfit. As you know this season I have been in love with berry tones (including red). Tonight was no exception. I decided to let the jacket be the star and added in supporting accents (hair, tights, necklace, red shoes). This outfit was inspired by this one. I am wearing the same long sleeved tee shirt and skirt. I kind of like these pieces as a foundation to build upon. I realized it has become a kind of uniform. I am wearing:

Old Navy long sleeve black tee
Banana Republic black stretch twill pencil skirt
Black House White Market red velvet jacket
Simply Vera Wang lace tights
Madden Girl dark red pumps

OH BOY. You look so FAB. That outfit is catwalk - worthy!!

  • Adelfa replied 10 years ago

Wow, what a stunning holiday outfit! And I love your lipstick. Isn't it amazing not to have crazy family tension? I didn't have any today either, just a nice time with friends.

  • Vildy replied 10 years ago

Wow from me, too.  I'll bet your husband's thankful he can sit at the table and gaze at you!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Adelfa - Absolutely, the last time we dealt with family there was a huge brouhaha, I cooked for 12 hours (no help -- surprise!) and we had a family member disappear in the night (on her own volition -- dramatic as usual!). I was happy to have a pleasant server and a wonderful experience!

    Anne - I totally felt cat-walk worthy.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You look so glamorous. You need to repeat this outfit during the holidays.
Mr Day Vies must be thankful that he's married to a beautiful brilliant woman.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

Holy Turkey Day!  What a stunning look.  Most of us are in cozy sweaters and slippers, either covered in flour or wrapped in a dish towel.  Meanwhile......in glamour land.......

Hope your evening was beautiful and lovely!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

Just fell of my chair and had to pick my jaw up to! You look amazingly stunning DV. The fit of the jacket and colour is made for you. And your hair is so perfect.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

    WOW, you look Fab!

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

One of my favourites ever. The cut & texture of the jacket & your hair are totally fab. Glad you had a great time :)

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Ah Beth Ann, I had to pause my Scandal Marathon just to read your comment to DH. Glamourland indeed!

Deborah -- coming from someone whose style I admire as much as your that means a lot to me -- thank you!

Joy - I think I'll be repeating this often it's a good formula for me. I have 2 more red black and white outfits for the season. I can't wait to wear them.

  • Sharon replied 10 years ago

OMG, totally gorgeous! You look like a model.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here, but Christmas is usually the big family get-together. After a situation similar to the one you described, my husband made a rule: only one crazy family member in the house at a time. (The sane ones are fine, but put the crazy ones together and there WILL be trouble!) Works like magic - peaceful gatherings ever since. :)

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

So absolutely gorgeous - I can hardly stand it!  That color is divine on you!  And, I love, love, love your hair!  Beautiful woman!

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Sharon that is an EXCELLENT rule! One crazy family member at a time :-D!

  • goldenpig replied 10 years ago

Stunning DV! Love the hair and outfit. You look like a model. Those tights are so pretty too!

I mean... really woman! This post must have a warning sign before opening the photos.

You are right - have the right base and the rest just follows. Amazing example of how swapping a few pieces can create completely different look and still be so very you. And just how stunning the outfits created around one star piece can be.

Btw, your hair is amazing. The way you work it in so many creative ways deserves a standing ovation on its own.

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

LOVE saturated colours on you, and this outfit is no different!

  • rute replied 10 years ago

You look stunning! Fabulous lipstick and jacket! Red is your color!

  • RunswithDolphins replied 10 years ago

Sizzling! I love the velvet jacket on you against the black skirt and top with the pop of the red pumps and matching lipstick.  But I do think it's the textured lace tights that add that element of surprise that is so fascinating.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

    Another WOW......you look fantastic :)

  • Windchime replied 10 years ago

You intended for your jacket to be the star, but YOU are the star. You look fabulous! I love the jacket, the tights, your hair and lipstick. Glad you and DH had a tranquil Thanksgiving Day.

  • Momo replied 10 years ago

Wow! You are sizzling! Love it all. Great stockings!

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

WOW! This is full out glamour! You look sensational. I love the rich red of the jacket on you, its sumptuous texture, and the lacy hose combined with the shiny shoes. The necklace is a pop of bright. And your hair is just gorgeous. I hope you will repeat this over the holidays!

  • JG replied 10 years ago

You should have put a warning in your title or introductory comments. You are breath-taking! Seeing these photos might be dangerous for someone who spent a stressful day yesterday, cooking for hours, dealing with family tensions, and eating too much.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

You look great!  I love those tights!  No cooking or cleaning sounds fabulous to me (although I had an excuse this year to get out of the clean-up - the baby needed to be fed).

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

I'm gasping...I can't catch my breath - Good Gravy, this outfit is SPECTACULAR! I can't even say what I love most because I love it all. And your hair is amazing!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

You are too GORGEOUS for words Day Vies :)

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Wow - stunning! Your hair looks fantastic, as does the rest of the outfit.

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

Wow!  You are an inspiration to us all!

  • E replied 10 years ago

OMG, from head to toe you're just spectacular! I love this so, so much. Far too fancy for cooking. ;)

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

Perfect holiday look!  That jacket is to die for on you.

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

Good grief!  This is spectacular!  That jacket loves you for sure!!

I hear you on the "no tension, no cooking, no dishes!"  I've hosted Thanksgiving for years, and in my newly single, exiled-from-my-house state it was lovely to go to a restaurant with my parents and not worry about any family drama.

  • jengehrt replied 10 years ago

    Love this outfit!!!

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

GAAAAAHHH I love that jacket on you! I don't usually go for bows but I am going straight to BHWM and hope that's a newer piece. Your hair is so soft and fluffy I want to just scrunch my fingers all up in there....And the way you used the tights makes it so perfect.

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

My God! This is more than fab! Love love LOVE the berries myself, and this is a very flaterring cut, luxurious fabric- jacket-which makes a statemnet on itself, it really suits you sooo welll! The lace tights/red shoes combo are terrific! You are extrabombshelling that (otherwise trully perfect cut an fit) pencil! Hair and lipstic also gorgeous! Faints!:-)

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

So fab, colors and the neckline of the top and jacket.
Beautifully done to let the red jacket be the star--or really, you.
    Simple dynamite!

  • LACeleste replied 10 years ago

You are a super stunner!  Wow!!!!!!

  • Echo replied 10 years ago

Next time you post an outfit this fab, you need to warn us to don our crash helmets before opening the thread!

I can't even point to one thing about this outfit because every single element is absolutely perfect and combines with the rest in just the right way. You look absolutely amazing. I am so glad you had a relaxing Thanksgiving.

  • JAileen replied 10 years ago

I almost fell off of my chair.  That jacket, swoon!  Those curls, swoon!  The gorgeous shape this outfit is showing off, swoon!  My favorite look I've seen you post yet.  And berries are so super on you, keep sporting them!

  • Mia replied 10 years ago

Simply the best! So nice to have tranquil day as a bonus.

  • dustt replied 10 years ago

sorry I'm so late to this party - I adore the hair on the loose!! - it is so beautiful - and the berry color just sings with your complexion!! - that jacket is a show stopper!! - Wish I'd been able to dress up more myself - but all that cooking, cleaning and serving made my wardrobe choices much less fabulous that yours!!!

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Oh wow! This would be my favorite outfit of yours! Love the patterned tights and the jacket! Gorgeous smile and I bet DH was floored :)

  • Diana replied 10 years ago

WOW!!!!! I just saw this but I just had to comment because you look absolutely breathtaking!

  • christieanne replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous! I am inspired to amp up my holiday looks. I also love how you realized you used basic, uniform items and layered them to create knockout combo.

  • No Fear of Fashion replied 10 years ago

I can only add what the others have already said: stunning, awesome... the whole outfit. Man, you must have turned some heads in the street.
This is such a winning outfit; shoes, jacket, skirt, tights everything. And I love the way you wear your hair. I would love to have your hair (I know it is high maintenance, but boy oh boy, the results are so great).
