A jacket dresses everything up

Today my only errands were visiting the post office and picking DH up from the airport. (He was visiting Seattle for a conference). I thought this outfit was simple and the jacket elevated the basic tank + short combo.

One of the major things I have learned(and continue to improve) from the forum is balancing volume. I was playing around in my closet yesterday and pulled out this jacket. It is pretty much a box which is why I've avoided wearing it, but I could not bring myself to give it up. A short sleeve linen blend jacket with shape is hard to find in a design that could go into the office. I also love
the linear design, on seam pockets, and slightly puffed sleeves.

Today's look is Banana Republic and I am wearing my Franco Sarto cognac wedges.

I like the jacket and glad you saved it. Lightweight summer toppers are hard to find! I would wear longer shorts and flat sandals to balance it, though.

That's a great use for your jacket!
Have you tried belting it to give it some waist definition? (since you mention not liking the boxiness)

Fabulous, flirty, and fun. DH will be counting the days until he gets back to you. Love the belt, by the way.

A jacket does dress everything up! Fantastic outfit, you took an everyday shorts outfit and kicked it up a notch. Good thing you hung on to that jacket, it looks great with the shorts and probably will go with a lot of your other outfits, too.

And OMGoodness, you have gorgeous gams, girlfriend! That length of shorts is perfect for you.

Froggiebecky - I have tried belting. The jacket is a weird length on me where it's not long enough to look anything but bunched up when belted. It's got sort of an a-line to it which is why I think it's so voluminous. So I figured if I belted my shorts I could define my waist that way.

Unfrumped - great suggestions. I was thinking of trying this jacket out with skinny jeans and flat sandals next.

Suz - just got a text from DH saying that he just boarded the plane - I'll see him in about 3 hours.

Karie - It's the one area of my body that resists mocha and biscotti binges. Thank you!
Shannon! -- How I've missed you. Thanks for stopping by.

I like the volume with the shorts; it's not overwhelming at all, and looks comfy :)

The lovely layered detail up top on your jacket is so pretty!

Great jacket -- rare to find those interesting summer weight pieces. Your legs look lovely and toned in the shorts.
