Deep red and more plaid

I got the idea for this outfit as I was drifting off to sleep. I love dark red, burgundy and berry tones. I thought this skirt and jacket combo would work well together. The jacket is my lady like version of edge in faux leather and the skirt is a faux wrap tweed. This is the first time I've worn this combination though I've had these pieces for a while. Are the proportions OK?

I have a short waist so I am always a little self-conscious when I actually show the line of demarcation between my top and a bottom that lands at my natural waist.

Looking good, Day Vies!  Love the colour combination - gorgeous.

Clearly you should always plan your outfits while you are drifting to sleep.
    This is phenomenal.
I wonder how I can copycat this.....

Very put-together! I don't know how you do it. I'm always a hot mess.

DV- you have a thought after your head hit the pillow?  With a little one? This was a great thought!
That color combination is fabulous and I like the tweed with the faux leather texture. I think the proportions work and if you wanted to switch up on another occasion you could try not tucking the lovely top in and see if that works.  I sometimes like the way a shorter topper plays with a slightly longer top.

Hi DV - this is awesome as always. Such a sophisticated color combo. I like the higher-waisted look; to me it always has a ladylike quality to it, and the jacket keeps it balanced. However, I'll echo Eliza's idea, IF you would feel more comfortable that way. Looks great!! Much better than my post-baby yoga pants and matching yoga jacket look ;)

Eliza - I have WAY too many thoughts after my head hits the pillow. The inability to turn my mind off contributes to my lack of sleep. This at least was a pleasant thought

I love the color combination here! And from another member of the short-waisted club, I think the proportions look fantastic.

I think it looks great on you!  I really like the colors together.

So sharp! Love the colour combo and I like the high waist tempered by the jacket.

Great combo--I like the textures and colors together. Your gray tights really streamline the whole look. I think the proportions work, but I would also be curious to see the top untucked and ruched at the waist. I'm high-waisted, too, and that's a look I sometimes end up using for myself. I was also wondering about a belt?

Love the textures and colors here -- so perfect for keeping winter outfits interesting!  The camera angle makes it a bit hard to be sure about the issue of the waistline --I think the jacket line makes the proportion work.

Faux leather is perfect with a baby in the house!

It looks great to my eye. Your lovely long legs make the proportions work. Thinking up outfits helps to chase other thoughts from my mind when trying to fall asleep.

Very nice. I love this color combination.

Love the colors and the combination looks great. That said I have a hard time seeing the proportions from this photo angle if you know what I mean. Based on your record though, they are spectacular!

Beth Ann  & Shevia - Yeah, I guess it is hard to see the waist line if you're looking up at me. I'll keep that in mind when I ask for advice on proportions in the future. Ooops! :-)

Firecracker - I will try a ruched look at the waist. This turtle neck is way too long for that. I have worn this skirt belted in the past, but the belt I was thinking of (dark red) I felt was one too many red pieces. Truthfully I did not try the outfit on with a belt so I'll have to do that next time around.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 9 years ago

Ooh, I like the belted look, too. But really, it's just another option, because I love the outfit the way you wore it here.

    I think this looks wonderful!

I love this color combination so much, and it's great to see you back here! I was also curious to know what it might look like with the top untucked, but I think it looks fab anyway. I'm with Celia in wondering how I might copy this look!
