What I Did to Red and White Gingham

This is the first time I've worn this shirt and I am feeling quite victorious. I figured out how to wear this to the office without it looking casual or gimmicky. The color palette is red white and blue but I don't look like I'm actively celebrating independence day.
This idea to put the BR tipped sweater over this Old Navy flannel shirt came to me on the train. I was not at all sure what it would look like on my body, but I am pleased with the result. Tell me what you think or how you have dressed up a flannel shirt.
I am loving the bonus of having access to an extra warm toasty layer that isn't a sweater or a jacket. (Go flannel!!!)

A lot of great ideas are born on the train!  Love the way you make preppy so elegant!

A little Preppy Fabness for Friday. More thumbs up from me.

I love gingham, so thumbs up from me, too!

So cute, perfect for Fridays.  I love how the idea "came to you on the train."  That means you are like me, thinking about this stuff in your sleep.  LOL!

Fun! And bonus that the flannel was warm and cozy. I think the BR cardi pairing gives it a great little preppy flair. I like to dress up my flannels with pumps and slim pants :)

You do a great service to red and white gingham! :) Love that you were warm and cozy too!

The tipped sweater really ups the gingham to a more dressy option. Very impressive pairing!

Very pretty, and a great way to wear a flannel shirt!

How do you do it?!  How do you make a flannel shirt look crisp and fresh?
I love this but would never be able to get a flannel collar to pop like that.

I love it DV.  I was looking for the right word to describe the shirt and was thinking boyish but then saw Angie say preppy and knew that was what I was thinking.  I love the very feminine Chanel-esque sweater with the preppy shirt.  Great mix.

I can't believe how well the tipped sweater goes with the checks. I have a tipped blouse that works with a lot too. I want to look for more tipped things!

I'm impressed! The chic cardigan takes away the "picnic" factor of the gingham and you look professional.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Ok, I may be the odd one out, but I feel like the way the sweater falls is making your waistline look wider than I know it is. You still look glam and gorgeous, but I am comparing to all your other stellar looks. The gingham is great though!

Sorry, I hate commenting when I don't love something, and it's so rare with your posts!

I guess this is kinda preppy. I just liked the combination. I tend to think about my outfits when I have a few minutes to myself. The train is a favorite place for outfit creation though.

I love all your outfits, and this one is no exception!

  • Marmee replied 10 years ago

I like the combination...and now i want a flannel gingham shirt!

  • RunswithDolphins replied 10 years ago

I do love the way you've managed to make casual look so sophisticated. Kudos!

Red and white are yet another great combination on you and I like how the tipping sort of disciplines the gingham.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

Oh my, this is so very pretty!

Now I want my own gingham shirt...
