WIW 4.15.13

Today was springlike. It was rainy and mild with temperatures in the low 60's.  (sarcastic cheer ;-))   I planned this outfit 3 weeks ago when I bought these pieces -- it was reinforced when I found the same pieces paired together on Pinterest. Both pieces are from BR and the sheath dress is a nice mid-weight knit.
I think the white and navy sweater signal spring, but I think I can do something more inventive with this dress but I'm creatively tapped. Any suggestions?

Just lovely. Just the right note for a day with spring rain.

Gorgeous! Beautiful and polished. Perfect for spring!

Wow, this is stunning!! LOVE it on you. Though I am chuckling at your sarcastic cheer. Same issue here, although we actually saw the sun today (another sarcastic cheer).

Ideas...hmm...wouldn't that dress look amazing with the belt that Spiffy posted yesterday? Or one like this? (Okay, maybe these are pricey options...)

Choice of footwear and bag will also help the dress continue into spring, obviously. In some ways, dresses are the easiest. In other ways, it's tough to do much with them.

Suz --  Thank you! I love where you're going with the printed wide belt. It is pricey but it's at least getting the creative juices flowing. I have shoes with a similar floral print that I will consider when it gets a little warmer (peep toe). I like like the idea of bright yellows and oranges with this dress. I was thinking bronze or chocolate initially but that feels really fall to me. I think I would have to be careful with some shades of green for the same reason.

I love that colour on you, so pretty. I think Suz's suggestion of the printed yellow belt is spot on. Also, the colours you have in mind would work really well with the purple.

    So pretty :)

I bet purple is one of your favourite colours, DV. You wear it with the best of them.

Have you tried any of your other toppers with the sheath?

What a gorgeous dress! I could see red or cobalt or turquoise with this dress, but oranges and yellows would be first choice.

I really like the way you've styled it here! I also like the suggestions for a wide belt, colorful spring shoes (solid and patterned), and some of your other toppers. How about a pretty spring scarf?

Angie - I have tried my peplum jacket which looks great but it's black. Maybe if I wore it with my black & white zebra print scarf I wouldn't feel like I'm back and old man winter's doorstep. The other solution some of my other light colored cardigans and jackets. I have also considered what to wear under the dress. I have some long-sleeve tees and turtlenecks that could work.
BTW I do love purple -- amethyst to be precise but my favorite color is cobalt/ultramarine/sapphire (which is pretty darn close on the color wheel)

Joy -- red would look really interesting. I played around with some of my dark red belts when I brought this home. You are right, milky turquoise would be divine (you are a genius!)

Karie -- yes a spring scarf would be a good accessory. You are on to something, I am thinking about a pink and green scarf I have which would really make this dress feel more spring-like to me.

Saw the small pics and 'wow' actually came out of my mouth!

My I love this colour on you. I love all the colour suggestions, a cream jacket would also look spring-like & sophisticated.

I can't get over how stunning your WIW's are. I think a patterned belt would be fabulous with this.

Oh this is CRAZY stunning DV!

Wonderful colors and you are a true sweater girl - gorgeous!

Gorgeous outfit on you! I vote for yellow and orange, as you suggested, and I like Joy's idea of turquoise, too. You'll have to show us what you try out!

Such a rich beautiful color and that classic sweater is so chic!  You rock!
  • Ingunn replied 11 years ago

I love this as it is! This is a Chanel-esque jacket I would buy in a snap if I saw it. The dress has a wonderful color for you. A light topper, light shoes and a leopard or other patterned belt would probably work well and be spring-y?

You are always perfection in my eyes!  For some reason I'm imagining spectator pumps here.
  • Vicki replied 11 years ago
DV, this is a beautiful combination on you and to think you and Pinterest were on the same wavelength is exceptional.  I love the KS belt Suz posted and think those yellow florals would be a lovely way to go for spring.

I used to have a leopard print scarf with an amethyst border that was great. Call me a parrot, but right now I'm loving pale yellow, bright sunflower or tomato-orange red with my dark purple denim jacket. Teal or lime green works for me too, just not at once! And chambray light blue. Got a light blue cropped denim jacket?

Alicat -- I like the way you think -- I have been thinking of adding some cream and black spectators to my collection.

Is the dress really that amazing shade of purple?!  I am brain-dead for ideas, but you look marvelous. :)
