And the day started with no power...

Today I had a meeting smack in the middle of the day. I'm glad I pushed the time back as far as possible. Who knew I would awake at 4 a.m. to no power (thank you late-winter thundersnow!) and an empty tummy. The empty tummy was an easy problem to fix; no power however, required a little bit more than a bowl of maple shredded wheat. I had trouble getting back to sleep because I need a humidifier running constantly this time of year -- dry air makes it nearly impossible for me to get comfy. After 2 hours of just laying there in the dark (no lights remember) I gave up, and by that time my tummy was empty again anyway ;-).

Another factor contributing to my insomnia this morning was we weren't sure whether DH would be able to spring his car from the garage with the power out. If the garage wouldn't open, then I would need to drop DH at work since we have a closet-sized 1-car garage and I park on the street. Lucky for me the power came back at about 8:30 and DH was still preparing to leave.

This is what I wore to my 2 p.m. appointment. I loved the colors and the layers. Surprisingly I was OK with only earring a watch and a small ring for jewelry. I have worn this before (pic 2) and I doubt that beyond this week I'll be able to wear this jacket. I'll end here because now I'm rambling.

That sweater color is beyond gorgeous on you!

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

You look fantastic in spite of all the awful weather related problems. That storm is at my house right now, I hope our power stays on!

You look beautiful despite the hard night!

  • Kristin L replied 10 years ago

Eek! I'm glad your power finally came back on. You look great! I love the sequins under the cardigan under the jacket.

  • Nebraskim replied 10 years ago

That color is luscious on you. Hope you have a better and less stressful night.

Omg one of my favorites on you!

  • adorkable replied 10 years ago

    You look delightful!

I so, so, so, so feel you on the insomnia - it's the worst.

  • deb replied 10 years ago

This color is one of your best, IMO.

Glad your power outage was short lived and my goodness DV, you are looking radiant!

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Another wonderful color on you! Hopefully no more snow - we were in the storm's path as well.

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

We sent most of the snow southward to the city, I think. So sorry you lost power, but you look amazing.  Truly.  I love the way your working with what's in your closet.  When the jacket is too small, you could layer a longer black open-front cardi over it.

Karie - I hope the electric gods are watching over you -- trying to figure out a work around for no electricity is no fun :-(

    - Sequin... I guess the pattern evokes the shape of sequin and there are some nice jewel tones too. It is a satin shell but sequin it is not. (surprise ;-)!)

Shannon - the radiance feels a little dimmed today but that is only because of a lack of sleep. I have PLENTY of time to catch up on it. Radiance will be back in full force (inside and out) this weekend.

Pil - I hope the storm has weakened by the time it passes over you. I was really surprised not so much that it snowed, but that the storm was so violent.  However, when I peeked outside at about 4:30 this morning the heavy wet snow was stuck to everything (buildings, windows, trees/branches, street signs, light poles etc.) creating a winter wonderland. It was really beautiful.

You look wonderful in that sweater!

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

DV, you look so gorgeous in this purplish berry shade! I like both versions actually.

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

I wish I could look this polished -- and I'm neither pregnant nor suffering from power-loss-related sleeplessness!

  • fuzzylogic replied 10 years ago

I love the way the shell contributes to a 'column of black' but with a fabulous difference!!! Nicely played!

Lovely proportions to these layers Day Vies with a sophisticated dramatic palette.
I sympathise with the power outages. We often have them on our hottest days when supply can't  cope with demand. On those occasions I drape a wet towel over the back of a chair alongside where I'm sitting. It works well for cooling but I was wondering if that would have also worked in your situation by humidifying the air.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

You look gorgeous -- and well layered, too, for the weather. So sorry about the insomnia and power outage.

  • rute replied 10 years ago

You look amazing! So chic and this says power to me!

  • Marina replied 10 years ago

This sweter has a great color, really attractive and catchy. Though, I like the second outfit (with trousers) more. Maybe the problem is in a black jachet - as for mr, it does not really suit the image.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

No power is no fun, but that berry shade is lovely on you.  I think it may also work quite well with white in an outfit remix.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

I love to see the old outfits worn again. You look great, now and before.

One question - did you notice the silence when the power went out? It happened to us once here and it was amazing. Everything went so silent. No buzzing, nothing. I never realised how many background sounds there are until they all disappeared.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

A wonderfully professional look. You did extremely well with no power. xo

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Ornella - It was silent inside but by 6am there was a hive of activity outside as people worked to free their cars and start their work day (sometimes I wish I lived in the middle of nowhere because I'd like complete silence).

You have an amazing ability to look polished and pulled together no matter the circumstances, DV. We've already agreed that you wear any color equally well, particularly in high contrast outfits, and this is no exception. I'm so happy to see that you are coping well with both pregnancy and power loss. You look fantastic.

  • Laurinda replied 10 years ago

Glad you pulled it together so well!
