WIW: Art deco dress

I was quite excited about today's outfit. I am a little deflated about the tights. They are a lovely dove gray but they look nearly white (nurse like) which was definitely not the effect I was going for. So although my happiness factor is pretty high it's not as high as it could be. Suggestions on colored hose are appreciated :-)

Day Vies that dress is SO BEAUTIFUL on you! Sorry for shouting. I have never seen anything like it. Wow. Duh. I'm kind of at a loss for words. I don't own any hose or tights (hot climate) but I'd love to see something sheer and natural with this, if it's not too cold. If you need a true tight, maybe a smoke grey would give you a darker shade. *still swooning*

That dress is gorgeous on you! So glad you got it tailored. It is simply perfect.

I don't see anything wrong with the hose, they don't look like white "nurse stockings" to me. I wouldn't go darker, maybe a nude hose would look nice too. Your outfit looks fabulous, and fits perfectly.

This dress is beautiful and suits you so well! I don't really see anything wrong with the hose in the picture. Alternatively, you can always try a nude (matching your skin) tone - I tend to like that best for me unless I'm trying to make a statement with my hose. Your dress is a fabulous statement in itself, so the hose can just be a supporting player...

Gorgeous you, in a gorgeous dress. Love!

  • Tina replied 11 years ago

100% gorgeous! The tights are fine, they do not scream nurse at all.

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

Amazing amazing dress! I see no issue with the hose.

  • Beth Ann replied 11 years ago

Such a distinctive, flattering dress. Love this! What about a pair of "mushroom" or "dark taupe" hose? I think they would be a cooler tone than your skin, but not end up with a chalky look.

  • Echo replied 11 years ago

Oh, what a beautiful dress on you! And the hose don't translate as "nurse" at all on my screen. I think an "almost black" or sheer black hose would look great with this dress. I often wear these two shades because although they are sheer, they provide just the right shading and contrast on my legs. Plus the sheer black would go with the art deco look of the dress IMO. Still and all, I LOVE this outfit. You always look so beautiful!

That dress is SO COOL! And I see no nurse tights on my monitor - the gray is so much fun with the print. Possibly my favorite of yours to date. :D

  • Caro in Oz replied 11 years ago

Tights look grey on my monitor too. Stunning dress - ylf!

  • Marley replied 11 years ago

    Drop. Dead. Gorgeous! Seriously!
(no clue on tights - but IMO the ones in the pic look fine!)

  • Joy replied 11 years ago

Absolute perfection just as it is. The tights look fine and they probably photograph lighter than they really are.

The dress is a stunner. I love art deco, we need more art deco in our world! I vote for the black tights/hose option. the dress is center of this stage!

This is so gorgeous I am breathless. Seriously. Must breathe.

  • columbine(erin) replied 11 years ago

Wow. You look gorgeous. I'd go with sheer tights though those ones look fine.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

Who's looking at the stockings when that dress looks so damn good.

  • Ornella replied 11 years ago

This dress screams for the themed party and I hope you go to one and shine.

I love, love, love your wardrobe and your style.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Completely stunning! And unique. You have fabulous style.

And I don't see nurse white stockings in the photo -- were they more white IRL? Maybe try a different shade of grey or something with a slight pattern?

You look amazing in that dress! Beautiful shape and print on you.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

You are absolutely gorgeous in this dress and I am not getting any nurse like vibes at all. I would not dare offer a suggestion to improve something that already looks so fabulous.

  • Raisin replied 11 years ago

Wow, what a dress! The B&W pattern is gorgeous! I think the tights look great, but I bet when it's a bit warmer it will look great with bare legs too.

  • replied 11 years ago

What a beautiful dress, and a beautiful woman wearing it! I don't think those tights read as nurse tights at all.

  • moira replied 11 years ago

    That dress is amazing!
I see no nurse here. Those stockings read gray to me and look nice with the shoes. I do think sheer or fishnet stockings would look great too.

  • Day Vies replied 11 years ago

Thank you all so much for your comments and your suggestions. I guess second guessing myself is a bad idea. I am convinced that the gray tights did not make me look like a nurse. YAY! I will try mushroom (thanks Beth Ann) sheer or something in the brown neutral territory. I also think that sheer black in keeping with the art deco theme might also work (thanks Echo).

You look absolutely incredible in that gorgeous dress Day Vies! I see no nurse tights at all and suspect they just photograph a little lighter than they are in real life. Stunning!

  • Tina.b replied 11 years ago

One of your very best. This dress is beyond stunning on you. Love it belted! I think the tights work here, they don't seem white at all to me. Love this look so much, makes me want to wear a dress!
